Conjecturing is central to the work of reasoning and proving. This task gives fourth and fifth graders a chance to make conjectures and prove (or disprove) them.
Amy F. Hillen, ahillen@kennesaw.edu, and Tad Watanabe, twatanab@kennesaw.edu, are colleagues at Georgia's Kennesaw State University, where they teach mathematics content courses for prospective elementary school teachers. Hillen is interested in mathematical discourse, and Watanabe is interested in teacher education in Japan and how it can relate to teacher education in the United States.
