By implementing high-impact activities, such as designing a school and a skate park, mathematical thinking can be linked to the engineering design process.

Melissa A. Stoner, mastoner@salisbury.edu, is an assistant professor of mathematics at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland. She is interested in modeling biological phenomena using differential equations and teacher development and encouraging teachers to help students make connections between mathematical ideas and their use in the real world.

Kristin T. Stuby, kstuby@beth.k12.pa.us, teaches mathematics at Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She is interested in enhancing the curriculum and increasing student motivation and engagement by including STEM-related activities in the classroom.

Susan Szczepanski, ss08@lehigh.edu, is a professor of mathematics at Lehigh University in Bethlehem. Her primary research field is topology; community outreach with the local K-grade 12 schools has also been of increasing interest.
