This article identifies major differences between NCTM's Principles and Standards for School Mathematics and the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, including examples and implications for practice.

Alden J. Edson, email@example.com, is a doctoral candidate studying mathematics education in the Department of Mathematics at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Thomas and Edson are fellows at the Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum (CSMC), which supported the research represented in this article.
